US Department of Commerce in the UK The U.S. Commercial Service is the export development arm of the United States government, and the office in the U.S. Embassy London is one of the most active in the world. The main objectives are to promote business relationships between U.S. and U.K. companies, and assist U.S. companies with their efforts to enter the U.K. market. To support these objectives, the office analyzes information on the U.K. market, facilitates contacts with U.K. businesses, promotes U.S. products in the U.K. and European marketplace, and advocates U.S. business interests. Through the International Marketing Center, the office assist trade missions to the U.K., and help American companies or their representatives hold product launches, exhibitions, seminars or receptions in the Embassy's extensive facilities. The Intern Work Plan below will give you an idea as the kinds of projects interns work on, but my contact stated that there may, of course, be specific projects at the time of internship. Students interested in this opportunity must submit a resume and a letter explaining their motives for applying for an internship, a sample of their writing skills, and recommendation letters from two of their professors. A telephone interview would then scheduled. A security clearance, which can take around eight to ten weeks to complete, is required before any candidate is able to start work at the Embassy. Interns do not receive any pay or expenses, and the department does not offer housing or assistance with finding accommodation. The first step is to get accepted and a security clearance. Disney Writing Fellowship Program The Walt Disney Studios and ABC Entertainment are continuing the search to discover and employ creative talent, and to employ culturally and ethnically diverse writers. They are looking for up to eleven writers to work full-time developing their craft at The Walt Disney Studios and ABC Entertainment. They will be offering Fellowships in the feature film and television areas. No previous experience is necessary; however, writing samples are required. Fellows will each be provided a salary of $50,000 for a one-year period tentatively scheduled to begin in January 2004. Fellows chosen from outside of the Los Angeles area will be provided with coach round trip airfare and one month's accommodations. Eligibility: This Program is open to all writers. James Dunn, Jr. Memorial Fellowship Vito Marzullo Internship The James H. Dunn, Jr. Memorial Fellowship Program and Vito Marzullo Internship Program are governmental initiatives that strive to meet the public sector's future need for competent administrators. The Dunn Fellowship and Marzullo Internship serve as public sector management training programs that provide an opportunity for college graduates to supplement their education with experience in such areas as policy analysis and program administration. Summer Job/Internships Available at Camp Tanuga Camp Tanguga is an 12-week minimum commitment starting late May and ending in August. This camp serves up to 200 boys and girls ages 6-15 who attend Camp Tanuga. Staff members would work directly with children all day and everyday when the groups are at camp. Intern at Prairie Wetlands Learning Center Interns function as an integral part of the environmental education staff, and participate in all aspects of the operation of the Center. These duties may include: developing, conducting and evaluating environmental education and interpretation programs, researching and studying the natural history of the site and surrounding areas, interpretive writing, food service, maintenance needs and participation in other Wetland Management District activities. Successful applicants must have completed their sophomore year in college, and be in a field of study related to environmental education, natural resource management, outdoor education or biology. Internship last between 10-12 weeks depending on the season. Interns are provided with housing on site, training in education and interpretive techniques a bi-weekly stipend of $250.00. uniform shirts, name plate and use of kitchen cooking equipment. Wisconsin Badger Camp Wisconsin Badger Camp is an overnight camp that serves children and adults with developmental disabilities. Our campers range in age from 3-93, and Badger Camp does not turn away anyone due to the mildness or severity of their disability. We serve campers with diagnosis of Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, mental illness, Muscular Dystrophy, and many other conditions. Students are not required to have any experience working with people with disabilities, although it is helpful. Badger Camp is a great place for those interested in the fields of education, special education, sociology, psychology, therapeutic recreation, PT, OT, or any other service field to gain some experience and useful skills. The Defender Association The Defender Association provides legal representation to low income and indigent clients, in criminal matters as well as civil proceedings. Typically investigators are used in the criminal divisions; juvenile, and adult misdemeanor and felony cases. Volunteer internships are a big part of the Defender Association. Without the Investigator Intern Program, our office would not be able to investigate hundreds of cases each year. The demands placed on interns are significant. Hard work, stress, and frustration are common. However, the chance to develop professional skills, gain experience in the field of criminal law and defense work, and handle a significant amount of responsibility, make the internship program very competitive and rewarding. SIREN/Eaton Shelter The SIREN/Eaton Shelter, located in Charlotte is offering or internships or work studies to undergraduate and graduate level students. Students in Social Work. Sociology, Psychology or related fields would be offered 10-20 hours a week of hands-on field related work. Supervision would be provided by an MSW. SIREN/Eaton Shelter provides services to the homeless and supervisors of domestic violence. We have a small food bank and clothing room in addition to our emergency housing services and transitional housing program. Support groups are offered three nights a week and SIREN collaborates with Eve's Inc. of Lansing to run a children's support group. Case management is provided to all clients.
