Advisor - Carol Breed
Carol Breed is
Associate Professor of Business and
Insurance at Olivet
College. She also serves in the capacity of Educational Consultant for the
Society of Certified Insurance Counselors for the Michigan Institutes.
Carol earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration with a
Concentration in Insurance at Olivet College and a Juris Doctor at Thomas M.
Cooley Law School. She has earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter,
the Accredited Advisor in Insurance, and the Associate in Surplus Lines
Insurance designations from the American Institute for Chartered Property
Casualty Underwriters; the Certified Insurance Counselor designation from the
Society of Certified Insurance Counselors; and the Certified Professional
Insurance Women designation from the National Association of Insurance Women.
Carol has over 31
years of experience in the field of insurance. She has worked with insurance
agencies in the areas of marketing, sales, and service. Carol has taught
insurance and risk management at the collegiate level for Olivet College. She
has also designed and instructed
various insurance
classes to audiences ranging from the insurance novice to the experienced
agent. The programs include: pre-licensing courses; continuing education
classes; errors & omissions and employment practices loss prevention seminars;
and designation classes for the Certified Insurance Counselor and the Certified
Insurance Service Representative programs.
Carol has served on numerous committees
for Michigan’s Office of Financial and Insurance Services and the insurance
community. She is a co-founder and the president of the Michigan Insurance Hall
of Fame. She is also a member the Michigan Bar Association, the Greater
Kalamazoo Association of Insurance Women, and the Olivet College Insurance
Program Advisory Committee. Upon completing her law degree at Thomas M.
Cooley Law School, Carol returned to the Insurance Program at Olivet College
where, not that long ago she was a student, she is now a full-time professor.
She is also advisor of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, the
international risk management, insurance, and actuarial science fraternity.
